Before or After the Conference
For those who have the possibility to arrive early or stay late, Helsinki surroundings offer a lot to explore! Located in Espoo and its neighboring counties, less than an hour by public transport from Helsinki city center the Nuuksio national park offers a vast network of guided trails, which are ideal for getting to know Finnish nature with its forests and thousands of lakes.
Less than 100 km away, the old wooden, Swedish-speaking, coastline cities of Porvoo and Tammisaari are readily reachable by public transport and worth a visit.
The frequent ferry traffic between Helsinki and other Baltic sea cities makes it easy to visit the major cities of Finland’s neighboring countries. Tallinn, the medieval capital of Estonia, is a two-hour ferry trip away and Saint Petersburg in Russia can be visited without a visa by an organized cruise. The ferries take you also to the beautiful city of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
Modern night trains take you comfortably to the wilderness of Finnish Lapland in Northern Finland, where the sun does not set in the summer time, at all.
